Janna Meyen: the girl's style is hardcore. She will step up and try anything. The popular impression is that she "rides like a guy." Actually, she just rides the way she feels comfortable, in her own personal style, which is loaded with aggression and power. Born February 12, 1977, Janna was raised in Big Bear, California, where she began snowboarding around 1990, and was already an established figure a year or so later, winning the 1991 U.S. Open at age thirteen.
A subsequent flurry of coverage brought tons of recognition, and although she became known as something of a rail rat, most don't realize that Janna is a closet powder freak who is totally in love with cliffs, chutes and deep turns. She's always working toward being a more well-rounded rider.
Janna grew up inspired by Jamie Lynn, and currently enjoys sessions with good friends and fellow rippers James Jackson and Anne Jackson. Although Janna has traveled a majority of the time over the last decade, she never seems to grow tired of it. Even after all of the constant globe trotting, her favorite places to shred and kick it are still good ol' Bend, Oregon (where she recently bought a house) and Mt. Baker.
Unfortunately, Mr. Injury reared his ugly head in the form of a torn-up knee in early 2004. After reconstructive knee surgery, Janna's main focus is getting back on track with physical therapy and staying healthy. Look out for Janna in the 2004-05 season, cuz you better believe she's coming back strong! This veteran girl snowboarder, a role model to so many young girls, shows no signs of letting up.
